I am using the PQ321q 31.5" 4k monitor with the GTX980 at a scaled resolution of 3008x 1692 and some applications are having performance issues because of the scaled resoltuions GPU stress I'm assuming.

For example Adobe Speedgrade CC has massive UI lag and some Sequence Viewers like DJV and PDplayer applications are not playing in realtime. I have tested the UI Performance in Native 3840x2160 and everything works fine, unfortunately it's a bit too small for comfortable use.

Is there any way to have certain applications open up in a non scaled resolution, with a terminal command or anything. I was under the impression that OS X's scaling is independent and apps can take advantage of it.

Seems like I just found a solution that I was unaware about. If you select and app and go to "get info" you can select "open in low resolution".

It seems to have fixed the issues with 3rd party apps and performance. This is great, hope it helps!
