Wasn't it some big scandal in South-America with Ford cars and Firestone tires... ? Though I saw something on 60 minutes a while back... Hmmm...

Explorers, which are hella top-heavy have been flipping over in large enough numbers for there to be a major US class-action suit against Ford.

The Facts:

Ford recommends in their owner's manual to underinflate the Firestone tires.

Firestone became the scapegoat when Ford discovered that many of these deadly accidents involved tire failure. This was a tactic supported by the Automotive industry because otherwise the basic SUV design might be exposed for what it is:Incredibly dangerous.

SUV's, Light Trucks and Mini-Vans have NO spec for roof crush strength under US Federal law. Which means that these deadly accidents are equally the fault of Ford and the National Transportation Safety Board for not requiring there to be a reasonable crush limit on SUV rooves. That is: Firestone took it in the shorts because the money was stacked against them.

Back to the thread: I spotted this when it was initially posted and wondered if anyone would see that Ford is NOT a kosher company to use as an example unless we're gonna dredge up the infamous "exploding powerbook" from a few years back.
