I'm interested in buying a scanner in the 70 to 100 dollar range to scan in old family photos. Im currently using a 15 in. pb with photoshop and enough ram. Does anyone have any suggestions. I need to buy a main brand scanner so it canbe purchased at a local store, promptly.

A Canon Lide might be your best bet... there's a couple of models in that sort of price range. Otherwise, I would have said get an Epson...

I have a Canon Lide 50 and it works great, I just don't have it installed at the moment. Should be in your price range and it worked right away with photoshop ele.2. 🙂
One more thing its usb powered-- no power unit comes with it FWIW.

Epson Perfection 2400 Photo - $79... And it does do 35mm negatives and Sldes.

Love mine alot.
