Are there any good workflows for scanning a bunch of pictures and importing them into Photos on Big Sur?

I have hundreds of old photos from my wife’s family that need to be digitized. For reasons, photo scanning services are not an option. I’ve borrowed a scanner and I’m trying to figure out a good workflow.

Id prefer to use built-in software on Big Sur if possible to automatically crop & straighten the photos at a minimum. Any color correction, editing, tagging and organizing will not be my problem.

My basic workflow for any project is to organize the images first. In your case, I would make piles of photos according to person, which branch of the family, which vacation, etc. -- What ever makes most sense to you. Scan each group to its own folder using whatever file name the scanner creates. Use a renaming program to name them in a way that makes sense for you. (Aunt Sally 01; Aunt Sally 02; etc) Once you have them on the computer, then you can import them into Photos.
