I've successfully written and simulated a couple of applications, and paid my $99 fee. I want to upload my programs to my iPhone3G to try them out, but I am scared to go further because part of the user agreement says my iPhone will be locked into development mode forever and can't be used as a regular device.

Does that mean I have to sacrifice my iPhone and a 2 year contract just to try it out?

Does that mean I can't use my device normally (as a phone or data device?)

(Sorry I posted this question in the wrong forum, so I have put it here too).

It works fine, don't worry. I bet the majority of the people who use their iPhones for development also use them as their primary device on this forum. Plus most of that stuff in the documentation is old now anyway. I made a thread the other day where people explained it to me.

I use the same phone for both and it's fine...BUT, the new update will lock you into 2.1 mode which means you can't roll back to 2.0.x and if you make an app using 2.1 you can't distribute it yet because it's not public.

Do you need to be an ADC select member to access 2.1? I'm just a standard paid up individual developer and the only update I can find is the public release of 2.0.1.

Nope, I think they release in the order you signed up. I was a developer since day 1.

Ah, I see so it is handled individually then. Seems fair enough. I wonder if they target developers of specific applications to test certain areas?

I really have no desire to be a beta tester for 2.1, so sticking to 2.0.1 is fine for me.

Thanks for the info. I guess I need to man-up and just do it.

Now if I could only write an App to adjust some of the power features, I'd be happy (turning 3G/Edge off, GPS off, etc.)

I did a search but didn't find anything. Do you happen to know where it was, it would make for good reading?
