Scared to Update 5s to iOS 9

Yes, please do. It isn't worth it.

The only clear improvement I saw with iOS 9 was the battery life, though.

I have an iPhone 5s (my first iPhone) and I recently upgraded to iOS 8.4.1.. Ever since, my battery life hasn't been very good and I have to honestly say I wish I never upgraded. Should I be afraid to update to ios9? Because I REALLY am....

But cheer up. My hypothesis is that there's an issue with Metal, as non-Metal devices run fine with iOS 9 and because there are several bugs with Metal according with the Apple developer forums.

Apple has to fix this, and they most likely will.

There is never a clear consensus on an IOS update with reviews at both ends of the spectrum and in the middle. If you want to wait for the "best" you wait until the last release before the next September release.

Some of the niggling issues that are described don't deter me as I want the new functionality. I'm happy with the performance of IOS 9.0.2 on all my idevices.

I'm on 9.1 now and it is better. Less lag and stuttering. Scrolling has been improved as well.

I'm hanging back for now. Why? After reading TidBits' article, it appears that neither of our Macs, which are running 10.6.8, will be able to see my iPhone's content, we won't be able to backup to the Mac or easily exchange photos.

My major backup resource now is iCloud, so maybe it's not important. Do folks have some thoughts or experience with doing this.

Of course, one answer would be for us to just get a newer Mac...but that wouldn't be the cowboy way!

Well, I decided to try it...updated my iPad Air 2 to 9.02. No problem syncing content, including photos, to my MacBook which is running 10.6.8. Still have a bit of new-Mac lust, but not so necessary!
And so far, the iPad seems working just fine, with one exception: I did have Pages syncing content with iCloud, and it repeatedly was crashing. But I was wanting to turn off iCloud for Pages anyway, as I am not really comfortable with my confidential patient information going to iCloud (oh, and it's illegal, too!).
