Scheduled Maintenance process?

Every night at Midnight my hard drive starts going nuts. I'm assuming this is some sort of routine maintenance thing going on.

It drives me up the wall though and I would love to see what it is and how to fix it.

Any ideas?

This isn't a normal system operation. You've probably installed something that activates at midnight.
