Last time I opened up Quake III on Mac OS 9 I noticed there were only 2 servers, both with lobbies of 0/16.

This thread should be used to set dates/times where a bunch of us interested in the same games all go on at the same time to play a populated match.

Anyone up for some Quake III, or other online gaming?

If you need to, use the ultimate Mac OS 9 no CD patch (mounts images as real discs): Virtual CD-ROM/DVD-ROM Utility to get up and running.

Multiplayer Games List (please add more!):
Unreal Tournament 99
Quake III

The Macintosh Garden has Q3a and a serializer for it if you can't find it :D

@alex_free I had some ideas for other online multiplayer games. Jazz Jackrabbit 2, Age of Empires II, and Shanghai Dynasty all offer online multiplayer options from what I've heard. I've only done Q3a and JJ2 though.

AFAIK you can just enter a blank serial and Quake III works.

Definitely want to get into more Mac OS 9 gaming.

Anyone want to join the scheduled Friday game of Quake III? @RogerWilco6502 and me are currently in it so far.

Yeah I've used them before but with mixed results like sound failure etc. Still, it played very well on a dual1ghz quicksilver, 1.5Ghz PC133 sdram and stock geforce gpu aside from sound issues - IIRC fps was around 30-35 pretty consistently @ 600x800 and medium details. I'd like to commit to a Friday game but weekend seems more likely for me as Friday is pizza movie night with the kiddos. Might be able to hit a later night game more consistently. Let me know what you guys end up agreeing to and Ill try and get in on it.

I'm available Mondays and Tuesdays, typically any time of the day. It would be helpful if everyone interested in participating would post what their availability looks like.
I’d be available around 10:30 EST those days.

Hmm, is anyone else having issues joining most unreal servers? I think it’s because they require anti cheat which the old OS 9 versions don’t have? Only have got into one capture the flag match, but I’m sure one could just run their own server which I may do at some point.

Guys, I need help with UT99 :). Got images & patches from links on macintoshgarden (if I remember correctly). Game installed in Tiger & patched up to 4.36. But I can't launch it - with classic executable screen just goes black & self-exits afterwards. I tried unofficial OSX executable - interface shown, but when it come to resolution switch (using Cinema20", 1680x1050) - screen goes black & never rolls back, as unconfirmed mode. Worse - I don't know how to forcefully switch to desktop or close the game. Looking for advices :). Btw, classic environment was taken from some Internet site, don't remember which... M.B. there is confirmed good working package?

Can you install OS 9? That's what I'm using on the mini. I will try the native OS X build on my iBook running Leopard soon and let you know what happens.

AFAIK, Quad G5 is not compatible with it :). (BTW, it howls in Tiger far better than in Leopard :) ).
Have you tried editing the .ini file for something like 640x480 and going from there? I used the Unreal Gold ISO on real OS 9, which already was v436. Maybe try using that in classic?

Also, are you using the virtual CD/DVD Utility? I need this to mount the UT 99 Gold ISO to run the installed game or it crashes.

That was default at startup. About virtual CD\DVD - image is .toast so it's mounted without any additional software.
You need the mac to think you have a real CD in the drive, at least I did or it crashed.

I’ll try the OS X version in a bit.

Mounted image - insufficient? Question was that game started, but I couldn't change resolution - game drops or in case of UTOSX - neverending black screen. BTW, will it work with MacGLide (read about tjis tjing today)?
Oh maybe that is enough, I haven’t tried the OS X version yet though. Just heard of MacGLide, I was using the RAVE renderer on my Mac Mini. I am not sure how you can fix this. Does software rendering work?
