Got the X on Friday afternoon and noticed this morning that the screen has a scratch right in the middle of the display. I could scream!

It’s been in a case the whole time, I’ve not dropped it, I’ve been gentle with it since it’s new! I wasn’t even out the house yesterday. I have no idea how it’s happened. It’s such a small scratch that it’s only noticeable on the lock screen or a dark background and in a brightly lit room. However nonetheless as it’s such a new phone I’m really annoyed!

I could get the screen repaired using AppleCare but am reluctant to use one of my two repairs so early.

What do you think you would do if it happened to you?

I don't think that a scratch makes your phone eligible for repair...

With that said, if you're this allergic to cosmetic damages, then why not apply a screen protector before use?

I had already ordered one that arrives tomorrow! I (wrongly assumed) that I could make it 3 days without scratching it!

I don’t even know how it possibly could have happened! That’s the worse part of it!

Mine is about an hour old and I haven't set it up or removed the covering....it will receive a screen protector before I go any further.

Even if that is 2 days later. Patience is key.

I'm sorry to break this to you but I don't think Applecare would cover that.

iPhone X screen replacement is £286.44 in the UK.

Umm, what do you think AppleCare covers? OP, your call on if you use it this early or not. A screen protector would probably hide it and you can save your AppleCare.

I ordered the spigen tempered glass screen protector. I’m hoping when it’s applied the scratch is less noticeable!

The fact I have no idea how this happened makes me think the screen must be pretty susceptible to scratches. Take care folks!

If it's a minor scratch, the screen protector should be able to conceal that easily. And the scratch could be superficial on the oleophobic coating. However, if it's something that you can look past, I would just keep the iPhone as it is.

Not this type of damage. You need to do your homework.

  • AppleCare+ does not cover your iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Apple Watch for loss or theft, wear and tear, or for cosmetic damage which does not affect the functioning of the device (see clause 5.1).

What ever happened to drops and spills damage? Didn’t Apple cover that not too long ago?

So they would cover a tiny scratch on the screen that’s only visible in bright light?

No Read their full terms and conditions
3. What is not Covered?

3.1 Hardware Services and ADH Services

Apple may restrict Hardware Service and ADH Services to the country where the Covered Equipment was originally purchased.

Apple will not provide Hardware Services or ADH Services in the following circumstances:

What ever happened to personal responsibility? You scratch it, live with it. Do you take your car back to the dealer and ask for a new one if someone dings the door? Return periods, Apple Care and warranties are for real issues. Not to rectify your own carelessness. It’s no wonder Apple charges the prices they do with people thinking they can return items for any little thing.
