Hi all - is anyone else finding that the iPad2's back is susceptible to being scratched easily? I've been really careful with mine since I got it on Friday but within hours there were two small scratches on the back. I'm starting to think that the production process may be leaving small flecks of aluminium that can either flake off leaving what looks like a scratch but I also appear to have a small gouge on the edge with the smart cover.

Know this sounds totally anal but I'd be interested in everyone's feedback. If that's just the way it is for everyone then fair enough!

I've learned that scratches cannot be controlled. Even when u are careful, u still might get a scratch. It's metal and glass. There is nothing u can do about it, except get a full body case. The littlest and smallest things can scratch it. I swear I think if dust were to cross these devices the right way, it could scratch them too.

Sounds stupid and it may not work but try rubbing them hard (but not too hard) with your finger.

I had mine for like 3 hours then i noticed about 6 marks on the back, thought they were scratches but they rubbed off. They might not come off at first but try rubbing pretty hard on them and they may disappear.

Good luck, hope this is what it is.

by ghost armor and worry no more. Cant even tell on there when applied. You will thank me later

I think it's fair to say that many of the issues with scratching we hear about here are completely due to user error. Yes, the aluminum back plate is very fragile and vulnerable, but that just means you need to be extra careful with it. If you think you're being careful enough; be MORE careful.

To be honest every unit I opened (8 or 9) had scratches. Some extremely deep and some minor scratches that wouldn't come off. I assume its very prone to scratches if they cant even ship a perfect one. (In my personal experience)

You opened 8 ipads 2s just because of minor scratches?

I opened 8 because every screen was bad and the tech didn't even ask if I'd like to keep them. He proceeded on to the next one.

Even if it was simply because of a scratch, I'd still flip it. There's no way I'll pay $900 for an item thats scratched right out of the box. I treat all my items with care so the whole "it'll get scratched anyway" doesn't work with me.

Aluminum is VERY soft and unless it is protected will get marked up. Just a tint piece of sand(silicon) will scratch the back quickly.

I hope that Speck Products gets my case shipped FAST!

Are you in the UK at all? Just looked at the Speck PixelSkin and it looks sick but can't find anywhere to buy it in the UK; where did you order yours from?

Put a skin or cover on it, scratches and dents will happen with even careful use if it is not protected.
