Hi all.

I have a 2015 Macbook Pro.

I have no issues with the sound from the internal speakers. However, when I plug headphones in I get an almighty screeching noise, like feedback. When I remove the headphones from the headphone jack a red light shines momentarily, then a pop comes through the speakers.

Any idea what the hell this is?

Thanks!

Explain more, is your on-board mic open and what are you doing exactly?

I'm not doing anything. I'm just plugging the headphones in and it goes crazy.

Here's a video.

Wtf, try using a 3.5mm to 3.5mm adaptor, it could be the metal plug head causing issue with picking up emi... but that’s unacceptable.

also what’s the current status on this issue, have you used different headphones and earbuds to see if it’s the metal connector causing issue

Thanks for your reply. Yea I tried some other headphones and the same thing happened!

That's audio "feedback".
I would check to see if the MBP's internal mics are on, with the volume turned up all the way.

Fishrrman should be right...I'm an audio engineer, and the only reason you would get that feedback is if the signal is looping from an open mic to the headphone speakers., and I notice in the video that your headphones are right next to the onboard mics on the laptop. However, I'm not sure why when you plug your cans in, the system doesn't negate all other outputs and/or the mics (active/passive switching), unless your headphone jack is loose, cold-soldered, or otherwise defective. Also curious as to whether or not that squeal is coming from your deck speaks, or your headphone speaks, or both. I know it resolved itself, but I would have that jack checked; jmo.
