I have a 27-inch iMac (late 2009).

First display: stains on the screen (like dirt)
replaced
second display: stains again
replaced
third display: nasty backlight bleeding plus a nice dead pixel.

On the first and second display I had no issue of backlight bleed whatsoever therefore it's NOT normal at all. Every screen has some level of backlight bleed that's for sure but not as severe as the ones shown here.

I'm calling Apple tomorrow to make an appointment and have the display replaced once again. You should do the same in my opinion (unless the issue doesn't bother you, of course).

Doesn't look to good for you! Like I said in my post earlier in this thread, I sent mine back because I can't handle this backlighting issue.

In your Youtube movie we can clearly see the problem. As for me, I watch a lot of movies so I can't bare to watch it with that problem.

I bought my iMac online August 1 and got it August 11, they sent me a new one August 18, got a new one August 24 and sent that back as well.

Here you go you can clearly see the backlight bleed. I'm in two minds though as one part of me says if I send it back I may get one with a loud HDD or stuck pixels etc.. but the other part of me says if I've spent this much on a machine I expect it to be perfect especially with all this IPS and back light LED tech! I may wait until after crimbo and send it back.....

 I didn't realize this was what Back light bleeding is.... Damn... 3rd iPad Lucky.... :(

After having my 27" iMac for a few days I'm noticing that the viewing angle, distance and brightness level are key factors with the backlight hot spot noticeability. If I am at my desk which is an arms length away from the iMac, I do notice the brighter spots in the corners. If I move further to one side or the other I notice it more on the opposite side.

I do not notice the hot spots if I move back about 6 feet or two arms length from the iMac with no difference from side to side and the brightness is down from full (40 - 80 %)

It seems a characteristic of many 24"+ displays to have some kind of light bleed/hot spots. I recently had a LG M2762D 27-Inch Widescreen 1080p LCD TV Monitor that had light issues all the way around the bezel- top to bottom. The iMac is not half as bad. Most of what I'm reading is that people are exchanging their iMacs and getting another with the same characteristic if not bigger issues.

I think I'm going to save my time and energy and keep my new toy. I still have a week to evaluate the situation and make a decision. As of today, I think that its more a nit pick than a problem.... I think.

My Macbook Pro 13" seems to have much whiter whites too.

Otherwise, it sure is a great computer.

UPDATE: I decided to call Apple and explained my problems and asked about cosmetic blemishes and being a refurb. They recommended I take it to the Apple store to be checked and luckily there was an appointment today. I took it in and spoke to a guy at the Genius Bar. He agreed that the display brightness was uneven and the chips on the black lining border of the glass was chipped. Then he noticed that it was dented on the foot! I didn't even see that! So, it's going back tomorrow.

It's annoying that they wouldnt just take it and take care of the shipping and relieve me of the stress to send it back but I'm glad I went. Apple should rethink that approach. If I bought it at Best Buy in San Diego or online I could take it back in Phoenix if I had to.

Hoping for a speedy turn around....

You see? If the genius says it's an issue then it is an issue. Keep us informed.
You say it's a nit pick more than a problem and you may be right. But I'm quite obsessed (in a good way) with my computer as it is something I use every single day for work and for fun, I don't see why I should settle for something that is not as good as I know it can be. There are things I don't really care if they are falling apart (at least they work). But this is quite different. This is not a netbook bought at the mall for 300 euro.

Good replacement?

CornyDiego - was your replacement ok?
In a similar situation right now - replace or not. First replacement was slightly better, but still backlight bleed in one corner.
