Hi guys,

First of: I may be wrong with this but it feels like the screen brightness is a bit dimmer in Big Sur than it was before at a given brightness level. So e. g. brightness around 85% after the update feels the same as it was at around 70% before the update.

Anyone else also has the feeling that something got changed here?

Thanks

I agree something changed and my screen seems dimmer but I never really adjusted it before so I don't know what percents it was and whatnot. What I've noticed is that since Big Sur I've turned up the brightness a couple of times but it seems to set back to the darker setting at some point.

16" MBP 5500M with Auto Brightness enabled.

Thanks for your answer. I hope that it's "just" the relation of brightness setting vs. actual brightness that changed. So hopefully just the scaling changed and NOT the actual max. brightness.

I haven’t tested the higher brightness levels, but I did notice yesterday that the lowest brightness level seems brighter than in Catalina?

when I slide the display to the right, it works its way back to about40% after a couple of minutes.

ُThis due to the new feature in Big Sur "Allow wallpaper tinting in windows" can be found in System Preferences\General.

I’ve noticed this too on an iMac 5K 2020. Feel like previously I had the brightness just below 50% and now it’s near 80%. 100% feels fine now, whereas before it was unbearably bright. Unfortunately I have no tools to measure this.

Edit: this is with “Automatically adjust brightness” disabled.

Same problem here on iMac pro running Big Sur 11.4. Even the "Automatically adjust brightness" is unchecked the display brightness almost always resets when I'm restarting the computer...
