Is the an app available to capture just part of the screen or do I have to do a full screen capture and then use a second app to crop the image?

You can crop the image natively in iOS 6. Just open the Photos app, then tap Edit and then hit the crop symbol on the bottom of the screen.

If you are in OS X, just hit Command+Shift+4 (I don't know how to make all the fancy button logos).

Doing this will give you a cursor so you can capture only part of the screen. If you want just a particular window, hit Command+Shift+4+Spacebar
