I was watching Iron Fist on my daughter's iPhone X and noticed that in dark scenes it's impossible to make out any detail. I set true tone off, brightness at max checked all the accessibility options were off but still the issue remained

The specific scene I'm talking about is at Season 1 episode 1 at around 17.50m). In that scene I'm unable to see any detail in the black guys face as he is walking along.

Switching to my Galaxy S7 edge I'm able to see plenty of detail even with the brightness at half way.

I'm considering switching to an iPhone and this is quite a big issue as movies is something I use the phone for a lot.

Any ideas if this is an issue with Netflix the phone or even an issue with the screen?

I just watched the scene on my 8 Plus. It's a dark scene, but it looks right on my phone at full brightness.

I know that's my subjective opinion, but I hope it helps.

I want to season 1 episode 1. 17:50 mark. There isn’t even a black guy there. Just 2 white dudes talking.

I agree with Ortiz83. I do not see any black guy. I see two white guys talking under a tree one with a beenie hat and the other has a beard.

Sorry that should be around 39m in. I think I was looking at the time remaining.

Ok I found the part. That is suppose to be a really dark scene. Just because another phone can brighten that part up doesn’t mean it’s suppose to be seen that way. I’m horror video games, you can brighten the screen way high so you can see everything but they tell you to put it where you can’t see everything.

I understand it's a dark scene but I should be able to see the detail on his face. Even setting my S7 to 1/4 of the brightness I can still see more detail than the X. I'm just wondering if it's a Netflix issue or this is the way iPhones are setup. It doesn't seem right to me.

Looks fine on my iPad and 6+. And TV.

The brightness is cranked over 90% on the phone and tablet, though.

I think it is just poor film lighting with the crew filming it.

When the guy is walking, yes, there is supposed to be a dark overtone to the scene. It looks relatively the same lighting wise on my X and iPad Pro. Not a lot of detail until the black guy is on the ground and the lighting shines on his face.

There are plenty of scenes that show on my TV that are intended not to show the detail. It’s suppose to be dark. So I don’t agree with you that “you should” be able to see the detail. That’s how it was meant to be portrayed. If you disagree, fine. We can agree to disagree.

Thanks all. I think it only happens with programmes that have HDR so maybe that is supposed to be how it's displayed.

My S7 edge doesn't have a HDR display so can't really compare.

That at least explains the difference perhaps. I may just email Netflix and ask them for their view. I think I would rather have the detail but I understand HDR is supposed to make it display as intended.
