I have a late 2012 Mac mini. My screen keeps flashing to a smaller size screen and freezes then it flashes back to full size all on it own. how do i fix this? Its actually not a flash. it just goes to a reduced size and you can't type anything then it goes back to the full screen size and operates as it should. thanks

We'll need to know what monitor you're using for your Mac Mini.

Not sure if this is the problem but it reminds me of an issue I had with a 2013 MacBook Pro. The screen would glitch out, change size and freeze. Ultimately, the Logic Board needed replacement.

Right now I'm using a new Acer G257HU screen. But it was doing it with my older Dell screen also. It doesn't glitch out it just goes to a smaller screen then back to normal all on its own.

Just a WAG on my part.... but it could be the power supply causing it. (power fluctuations) I'm not inclined to suspect graphics because your Mini uses an Intel HD 4000 which is usually trouble free.
