Got my space black 42mm steel Apple Watch today but I've noticed that when the screen wakes up there's a split second delay and an orange line appears / flickers at the top of the screen.

Anyone else experienced this? I have a feeling I may be going back to the store tomorrow to return it. :(

Yes, I am too, series 2 stainless 42mm. It is even more noticeable in the dark, the whole screen flashes. I don't think my wife's series 2 38mm aluminum is doing it, but I need to check again tonight, and my 1st gen stainless did not.

I have this problem too on my 42mm stainless steel i got yesterday, I was going to start a thread this afternoon.

I was thinking that it was just mine and I was going to take it into a store to ask.

It's my first time with an apple watch so I was unsure whether this is normal or not. Its really annoying in low light.

I returned mine and repurchased. New one is fine so probably just a glitch in a few watches.

I've now realised that something isn't quite right with the screen and that I've paid too much money to make compromises so I've arranged for a replacement under the express replacement service. Hopefully the next one will work properly. In the meantime I can enjoy the rest of the Watch whilst I wait for the replacement. I had the option of going in store too but they said they would probably send it off for repair which would take 10 days which I didn't fancy doing.

Did anyone take it to the store and ask if it is just how it is or if it is a hardware defect? I have the whole screen flash before showing the watchface. I purchased it on the 17th, so I still have a few days to return.

I spoke to Apple on the online chat on the website, they said they've had a few cases of it happening and they wanted mine back and are sending a replacement.

I replaced mine via AppleCare+ express replacement and the new screen is fine. Unfortunately the dock button is a noisy one.

Relative to the 1st gen you do see a bit of a flash where the whole screen seems to light up before the watch face turns on. It looks like an LCD display's backlight turning on. It does this on my replacement S2 and my wife's S2. But the bad watch had the orange line at the top and an additional flicker, it kind of made it look like a CRT. All of this is only noticeable in very dim/dark lighting.

Had the same issue, same model 42mm stainless steel. Went into Genius Bar and they were going to swap out, but no watches in stock. Called Applecare and they are going to send a replacement watch.
