Hey guys,

I have a launch day X.

My colleague has an X that he received around a week ago. Side by side it is very noticeable that his screen is much brighter and vivid in colours than mine. I appreciate OLED will vary, has anyone else noticed this?

Make sure Auto Brightness/Night shift and True Tone are turned off on both.

Set the brightness to Max and compare.

Done this. Issue remains the same.

You're saying your colleagues screen is brighter and more vivid, how does your display qualify as an "Issue?" What issue are you experiencing? Just Because your display is not comparable to your colleagues, doesn't mean it's an issue or anything wrong with it. I know you're aware, But most displays likely vary in consistency.

Sounds like you have the makings of buyers remorse.
Take it back and consider a 8 or Pixel 2.

How’s the Pixel 2 footprint. Why I’m staying with 6/7/8 is because I can use the chassis with one thumb and can reach all corners of the screen with one thumb with a Magpul case. If the Pixel is the same I might consider it. I returned my X.

if their displays are ACTUALLY indeed a lot more brighter and vivid,
if you're not exaggerating, and it's that much of a difference,
yea, replace it.
i do not understand how people here say hit or miss.
95% of the 1000$ phone should be similar, and if too big a difference, replaced.

I will say the only way to notice this is to compare it with another iPhone X, and I don't know anyone else personally that has one. Secondly, I'm not about to compare my phone with a demo unit at the apple store. I'm thinking along the lines, if I search for something wrong on my phone. I'm sure I'll find something wrong.

OP, if you're unhappy with how your screen is functioning call apple and/or make a genius appointment.

Apple has horrible quality control welcome to the screen lottery club.

Just done some more comparison. My colleagues screen is a lot brighter than mine at full brightness and a lot darker at the least brightness.

so less brighter and less vivid than intended in your books is acceptable?
In my books yes, I don't like over-bright, over-saturated, vivid displays. So yes, more than acceptable. Either way it's not an issue that's for sure.

My God it's like show me yours and I'll show you mine, you must be a bloke, as I am.
Listen, as long as your colleague isn't shagging your wife, I wouldn't worry about it.
Oh don't say that, he'll be putting cameras up next! lol

Love the "excuse" responses.
These screens should be clones with few faulty exceptions.
Galaxy is a very popular choice amongst my peers and this is not an issue that I am aware of.

Agree with @maflynn , take it into Apple and have them look at it. What I would not accept is "the screens vary" as an excuse.

They nailed their suped up tricked out LCD panel.

Agreed. And for all the people settling for "its OLED. its just how it is" I feel sorry for ya. I lined up 4 X phones at the Apple Store, with all the same settings, and each one was dramatically different. Some were pink, some yellow, and blue. I returned mine on the spot.

I'll wait til they get it figured out. Or they release a 6.1 LCD version of the X as is rumored. I also compared a few 8 plus phones while there, and they all had nearly identical screens. No color shift or weird colors.

I can attest to this! Compared my X to the Apple Store demo units and mine was considerably brighter (when all set at full brightness). I couldn’t believe it at first but I’m not complaining.

Mods - please close this thread. No relevant information being posted.
Why? I believe you, OP, because mine was considerably brighter than the Apple demo units. There is definitely a varying degree of max brightness on these X OLEDs.
