I have the original first gen macbook. Randomly the screen would dimm for a second or two(more like a flash of dimm, back to normal, dimm, back to normal, etc....) Usually its at a minimal so its barely noticeable) It would happen at just any random time. Anyone know whats wrong? Should I send it back for warranty? I got like a few months left on the original one year warranty.

Yea I would have Apple check that out before your warranty is up.

I have a slightly loose power connector on my PB G4, if you wiggle it it will drop the connection briefly which causes the screen to dim because the system has just switched to battery. When the power connector makes proper contact again the screen will brighten back up. Is it possible that you are experiencing something similar?

i know you are talking about a macbook, but i have a macbook pro and there is a an option to have the screen dim and brighten according to ambient light source located in the 'displays' tab in system preferences

You could try here and see if the macbook also has this option, turning it off will stop any fluctations you seem to be getting, if that doesn't work then contact apple.

this is quite common on the first generation. google "macbook flickering" and you'll see. a new logic board will do the trick.

thanks for the help. Do I send it back to apple?
Since the warranty is limited, I'm not sure this problem will be fully cover by apple.

Also I'll be going to another state on tuesday for about 2 months so if I do send it back to apple, can they ship it to my new location instead of my home address?
