Hi, I am getting an Apple Watch Ultra 3 next weekend. Do I need a screen protector for it? I won't be using it in a gym really, just general life. I wash my hands white a bit though so there may be a risk of hitting the screen on a tap. My current Apple Watch Series 8 has scratches on it's screen so am not sure if I need one or not with the Ultra?

“need”? No, you don’t “need” one. My first 2 watches with Iona both had scratches, since I got sapphire, not a problem, and the Ultras I had, not a problem at all.
There have been posts here where folks reported scratches on their Ultra, only a couple if memory serves right. It is very rare.
I never had a screen protector on neither watch nor iPhone, personally I think they look ugly, YMMV

I got one that covers the screen and a little of the bezel. It’s glass and metal from Amazon. ESR I believe is the brand. I recommend it as it’s cheap will help protect the bezel of my black watch. My ultra 2 had no scratches or scuffs on the screen itself but did have some marks on the titanium.

I am getting the natural titanium one so not sure I need to worry about the bezel as much as if I had the Space Grey colour?

Thanks, so I don't need to worry about it then.

I didn’t have a protector on my ultra 2, it was natural titanium color and had 2 scuffs on the bezel from hitting it on stuff. I recommend the ESR protector, they have a natural colored one as well.

I got one for my black ultra 3 to avoid scuffs and scratches. The black is more prone to scuffs. Again even on the natural color I would get one, the screen is hard and scratch free, the bezel is what you need to be careful of. You will love it, great watch

I've had three sapphire crystal Apple Watches - Series 5, Ultra, and now Ultra 3 - and not a single scratch on any of them. My aluminum Series 2 without sapphire was scratched within two weeks and had tons of scratches after three years.

I think that they are unnecessary.

I've had a screen protector on my Ultra 1 since I bought it, and removed it roughly 3 months ago. I believe it was a Spigen protector. Sometimes taps and swipes just did not register because of the protector. Eventually when I took it off, everything worked fine again and I haven’t had a single issue with scratches or anything.

Don't use a screen protector on a sapphire, it would be a waste of money. I had a S5 that I just replaced this week and there are times when I banged it on doorknobs and a few other questionable things and every time I thought "surely that had to have left a mark"....Nope still looks as perfect as it did on day #1.

Sapphire is more resistant to scratches than any screen protector so it's pointless really to have one.

Whether or not you want to spend $ on AC+ is up to you of course.
My Ultra 2 had the speaker failing, got it replaced under AC+
of course....

and of course now that i made that comment above I will more than likely have an issue outside of my window without Apple care :-/

I have never, a would never, put a screen protector on my 8 or 10.

No scratches.

I personally think they look tacky.

If it makes you feel more uncomfortable, then do as you feel fit. I wouldn’t.

I’ve been using the mothca matte glass ones on my ultra 3. Helps the reflectivity and finger print issues significantly. I used to use icarez matte protectors but they stopped making them for the Ultra.
