Screen Protector on iPhone X ?

All of these screens are relatively soft. They will scratch eventually, even if you're careful. If only for the sake of resale value (assuming that's a consideration), use a screen protector.
A good glass screen protector will give you the same feeling as the unprotected display. It will also provide at least modest protection in some impacts (distinguished from scratches resulting from ordinary use).
"Safe" really depends on your history with phones and how you carry and use it.
For the past two phones I've been letting the Apple Store apply the Belkin glass screen protectors. They're several times more expensive that decent DIY alternatives but they're perfectly aligned and seem to resist things like edge chips that I've had with others.
Screen protectors definitely serve their purpose. I personally never use screen protectors and the ones that I have used in the past, I did not care for. Nor am I overly concerned with every little minuscule scratch that I can't see on my display. I prefer to use the iPhone just as it was out of the box. And all my displays are near perfect without the use of screen protectors.

I'm using the Zagg Glass... had Best Buy price match it at $28. Best money ever spent. I can't even tell it's on there.
I never use screen protector it just ruins the feel of the phone and it noticevly reduces the touch sensitivity

I used screen protectors up until about 2 years ago. When the 6S came out I decided to “take a risk” and try going without one. Never had any issues. Of course all my devices have gotten slight micro scratches, but they’re only visible if you’re really trying to find them.
To me, ever since the curved screens came on the 6 series, having a screen protector has a hugely negative effect on the experience of using the phone. It’s worth the small risk to go without IMO.
