What have been your experiences with screen protectors? Are they Necessary?

With the iPhone having slightly curved glass it seems like there aren’t many edge to edge screen protector options. And the glass Apple uses seems to be pretty resilient.

Necessary, well in my opinion anyway. I've had one in my last 3 devices, I like the security of knowing I'm protected from micro scratches mainly.

I've known people who have had their screen saved from shattering because of one and leads me to swearby one. I do prefer how the screen looks with one too!

I had been using screen protectors on my cell phones for years. Then about 5 years ago I just decided that I liked the looks and feel of using the screen bare, no protector, and have had no issues. I am very protective of my phone, don't carry it in a pocket with anything else, and always have a case on it that provides a decent lip surrounding the screen for when I lay it down face first etc. I realize that a screen protector can add a layer of security but I just prefer the bare screen.

As with any device it's a matter of preference. If you don't think scratches are a risk/concern then don't use one. If you do then use one. Don't overlook the countless existing discussions on the topic.

I haven't used one since getting on the iPhone upgrade program. I have a few small scratches but they're not noticeable and don't bother me.

Personally I consider them necessary. Doesn't matter how hard the glass is, the oleophobic coating is still prone to micro-scratches. Also tempered glass protectors protect against cracking on falls.

I do have Apple Care+, but visiting an apple store and waiting for a screen replacement is a hassle. With the sp I can just remove it and keep using the phone until I get home then apply another sp.

I will probably jinx it and regret saying this, but since my first iPhone I've been consistent with putting my iPhone in the right jeans pocket, and the rest in the left. To put it flat on the table, and to just hold it secure and not assume it slips out of my hand. And I've dropped it, but never really gave it a scratch (only iPhone 4 when it was sliding over concrete)
Never broke a screen, I tried screen protectors, but they never lasted a week, I got irritated by them.

I hope i never break or crack a screen, but so far without screen protectors i've been ok.
