Not sure how this compares, but I’ve been using Torras OrigArmor and honestly it’s fantastic. Dropped my phone several times without a crack and it’s seamless edge to edge, so I don’t even notice it’s there. Application is a breeze too.

Was expecting that to be the case. Anyway I use a Spigen screen protector and I am happy with it. The article on Astropad's website is an interesting read.

I don’t like breaking my phone on a daily basis, thanks. Additionally, a naked iPhone just doesn’t feel good in the hand.

I also use a matte screen protector! 😱

I like to daydream sometimes that the iphone events will finally announce a nano textured display option, it's only a matte(r) of time.

I hate the regular glass material of phones and normal screen protectors, matte is the way to go (and yes, I know it's not as sharp, the benefits outweigh this IMO).

And that’s what i use. The stronger military version with the 7x. Great company. Great products! Great packaging and customer service.
They’re my #1 company now for any accessories I need for my Apple stuff. I can’t recommend them enough! And I don’t get paid to say that lol

This is the first year I didn't use a screen protector on the Air. And I put it in my pocket (without anything else) and so far the screen is still pristine, not micro scratches yet. So CS2 might be good after-all. I was already starting to feel like screen protectors were becoming a huge waste of money.
Thats interesting.

I must admit ive been a lifelong screen protector user but I also have the air and have tried a couple of usual makes of protector and find they are lifting at the edges as they are just minutely too large for the screen.

perhaps a problem with them being made too early in the products lifecycle and they didnt didnt know the exact dimensions or real world application and maybe they are smaller now?

But anyway this year I really wanted to go protector less as the phone is naked too but theres always that niggling doubt that something is better than nothing and yet the Ceramic Shield promises seem too good to be true.

Im pretty sure I should bite the bullet and just take it off but micro scratches would annoy me.

Your experience with no micro scratches is encouraging.

I’ve never understood the purpose of a screen protector. I’ve never had a scratch or messed up screen that a piece of film would have protected

I’ve had iPhone since the original iPhone up to the 17 that I’m using now. I do have a case because I have occasionally dropped and cracked screens. But no screen protector is going to do anything when glass plus film meets pavement
Mmm… The only time I‘ve broken my phone screen (on a concrete pavement) was the only time I had no 9h tempered glass screen protector (EoL device, so didn’t care much anymore). Never, before or since had a cracked screen, but had a few cracked screen protectors from dropping my phone (both case and screen protector on). So, empirically, the screen protectors are doing their job at least in my case. But you do you. Maybe reality is slightly different in your country…

Are people still using screen "protectors"? Genuine question - why? Why put a thin slice of misaligned, inferior quality glass over Apple's high-quality, engineered glass? It cracks more easily than the actual screen and doesn't "absorb" any choskc so a hard enough shock will still shatter the glass underneath. I've neve had issues with my iPhone screen scratching to the point where I notice it.

Absolute nonsense.

I’ve seen phones all the time at work with broken glass shields, where the phone has been dropped and only the shield breaks and NOT the actual phone glass.
er - you kinda proved the point that screen protectors are a liability. The sticky piece of glass is nt a "shield", it's just low quality glass that breaks more easily than the actual screen.

Some just want better reflective screens so put on a screen protector. Also an extra protection in case you do drop it. My 16 pro max had a scratch and if I had a screen protector this would’ve been a non factor when selling. Luckily I had apple care to save my resale value

I see this logic a lot. And on the surface it makes sense.

But here’s the thing: screen protectors are more brittle and lower quality glass than what Apple uses on its screens. Especially Ceramic Shield 2.

In other words, you may drop your phone and break the screen protector only and think “I’m glad I had this on!”, then proceed to buy a new screen protector.

But what you don’t realize is if you had the same drop without the screen protector, the original screen wouldn’t have broken because its higher quality and more durable than the protector ever was.
Perhaps not broken, sure, but scratched no doubt yes. If she scratches her sapphire screen on her AW easily in the first month without a screen protector, there is no way her iphones would be scratch free especially living in a purse half the time, knocking against other items. The glass protector is weak but it does add a layer of impact resistance in mild to medium events, that repeated over time, may compromise the structure and integrity of an unprotected screen and lead to a crack or gouge eventually. Cost adds up for these screen protectors but i still think its cheaper than AppleCare+ for a screen damage incidents.

Or they are sacrificial and deflect some energy. I always use a screen protector as I don't have a phone only pocket in any of my jeans/shorts etc. I've never cracked a screen touch wood. I have cracked many screen protectors (some to be fair are where keys have pressed into the side edge of the protector) and scratched many, but phone screen has been fine. I like that screen protectors aren't as strong as a phone screen so that they can act as crumple zones so to speak.

Me too. I have nano texture on all my other devices now and can’t go back. However I’m having to use matte screen protector on my iPhone, just to get somewhere close.

I worry Apple might never release a nano texture version of the iPhone, mainly because nano texture is much less resistant to scratching from every day objects, and it bc idk just create a headache for them.

This thread has many wild generalisations…..”I have never used a screen protector and never damaged my phone”….implying that no one else needs screen protector.
all the time. I have apple care but also don't have an apple store near me so getting a replacement sometimes can be an issue. I have a case and screen protector. To each their own.

Yes obviously if you put another sheet of glass on top it needs its own AR coating in order for AR to work. No one didn’t know that.

But I think the bigger question is, if you use a typical screen protector on a 17 and then take it off, is the original AR coating intact? That would have been useful information.
