Picked up the 14 PM today and I never buy screen protectors, but have seen a few articles and videos where ppl have said they've picked up scratches out of nowhere.

Now I do take this info with a grain of salt. But I ended up with the Zagg Privacy screen. I'm not digging it. Just glancing at it from the side and you can't see the AOD. I know that's the point but might exchange for the clear one.

Anyone in the same boat?

I used to always use screen protectors but stopped about the time I bought my 6S. I don't put my phone in a pocket with other itemss and I have never had any scratches that were really visible. My current phone is a Iphone 13 that I've owned since around February of this year and it is still scratch free.

I’m on my 7th iPhone and I’ve never used a screen protector. And I’ve never noticed any scratches. Keep in mind, I’ve never looked at any of them under a microscope.

Having said that, I only touch the screen with my fingers, and it stays in my left pocket with nothing else.

I don’t like the way screen protectors look, and I can’t imagine I’d like the way they feel. I’ve traded in an XR and 12 to Verizon with no issues.

I can’t imagine anyone wanting to use a privacy protector unless they’re in the CIA. But, it’s ultimately up to you!

No, they have encrypted phones.

Everyone has a different opinion on this. But they don’t feel any different than the regular screen. This is the one I have on my 14PM and have had no issues at all.

I like that one. The Zagg has a pill shape cut out and a circle cut out for the dynamic island. Smh.

I looked at the Zagg also and I didn’t like the pill cutout as well. This one is a full screen protector over the pill also. When I got my 14PM I opened the box and took the little white screen sticker thing off and put the screen protector on right after that. Didn’t even hold the phone for more than 10 secs before I put the protector on.

I have had my 14 pro max since launch and never used a screen protector. It is still in it's pristine condition as day I got it. no scratches, not even micro scratches. I like to use my phone without the screen protector.

The new iPhone glass scratches easily. Get a protector. I use the Mothca anti-glare from amazon… it’s so good and has such a nice feel. Also being able to see the screen without all the reflections in any light is a big deal for me. $8.99 from Amazon.

I just have Apple install one when I pick up the phone. They do a great job.

OP, unless you have AppleCare+, using a £1k+ glass slab without a case or screen protector is risky to say the least.

I've tried most popular screen protectors (including the overpriced Belkin UltraGlass one Apple sells) and Spinen's is honestly the absolute best in every single way (fit, feel, protection, price):

The OP seems to be concerned about scratches.
I don't think AppleCare+ would cover the replacement of the glass because of a scratch, would it?

I think a screen protector is totally worth it. Like you said, swap it with the clear one. I am not a fan of those privacy screen protector.

Correct, Applecare+ would not cover scratches. Only way to get it covered is to use it overtime and if something more serious happens to it (screen shattering from accidental drop).

I had Apple install one. Unfortunately I ended up with a few scratches on the frame of my phone that weren’t there before they put it on. They put it in some kind of machine to apply it and that is what scratched my phone. I do keep my phone in an Apple silicone case, so at least I don’t have to see any scratches on the frame. Also, the protector is a tiny bit off center.

I do like the screen protector though. It was a Belkin of some kind.

When smartphones hit around $1000 ea. (starting with a Galaxy Note 4 in about 2014, $900), I started using screen protectors. 😊 Occasionally I go without, but usually I have one on my phone. My brand is iCarez, $5.95 for a pack of 3 at Amazon.

If you’re using a 14PM without a case or screen protector, scratches should probably be the last thing to worry about. One average drop on a hardwood floor is enough to get the back or the screen shattered.

Well that’s not right. You opt for a screen saver to avoid scratches. Kind of wrong to get scratches during an installation.

Yup. At least they were not on the screen, I guess. Not a lot I can do about it now, except keep it in a case and just accept that it's a thing that happened.

I'd heard rumors of some phones getting scratched by the machine they use when Apple applies screen protectors. I can now verify that it does happen. I really wish that iPhones had a more brushed metal appearance on the frame. It wouldn't be so easy to see scratches then.

If you are using a case you shouldn’t have to worry too much about cracking your screen even if no screen protector is applied. If you care about scratches, you should definitely use a screen protector.

The oleophobic coating is very easy to scratch and is noticeable during daylight. Only a screen protector can prevent your screen from minor scratches which can cause annoyance.

As little as they like it sometimes, I always point out to anyone working on my stuff any prior damage (if any) and insist on a prior work inspection and documentation of condition.
If that's not acceptable, I do the work myself.
I detest damage, and if there's going to be any, it had better be done by me.

I will keep this in mind in the future. The reason I had them do it is because after several attempts with some of the more popular screen protectors here, I was unable to get an installation without any dust. The screen protector that they installed literally has no dust that I have been able to find, though it took three tries for them to get it right, but I ended up with permanent damage instead. In hindsight, a bit of dust doesn't seem so bad. Even if I had noticed it right after they did it, I likely wouldn't have done anything about it because I have had absolutely no problems with this phone and I wouldn't want to risk a new phone that ends up with some kind of problem worse than a few hairline scratches.
