Hi. My 15" retina MBP 2015 has a badly cracked screen. Apple UK do not seem open for repairs in any way. Anyone on here have any recommendation / advice for an official screen replacement service. I am based in Harrow, NW London.

KRCS are an Apple Authorised Service Provider and do courier returns - they were amazing when I used them.https://www.krcs.co.uk/apple-repairs

Well, that went well. NOT

£650 for a screen replacement. Ouch! I had checked online via Apple’s various sections/forums giving info and I was expecting about £350, which was about doable. Not a great attitude in the Watford branch, I was advised to buy a new MacBook Air. The genius did say that if it was under 4 years old then Apple may have been able to meet 50% of the cost. I have had it for 4 and a half years, so thanks for that.

For the record, there was not any arguing or bullcarp sales stuff. Just indifference and an attitude of ‘that’s that, see you later’ in a shop that was almost empty save for about 30 staff. I simply thanked him for his time, mentioned that such a repair bill effectively landfills yet more serviceable goods, and left. The genius did not ‘get this’ as he was already done with me and back to fiddling with his phone.

Anyhow, seems such a waste to send such a great laptop to the dump!

Sadly that's about right. Repair shops, at least Apple certified ones, will only replace the entire display unit, not just the LCD panel. That's expensive in itself, and right now there seems to be a shortage of Apple parts such as screens. My shop is having issues getting them too (FL, USA) so the demand is driving up the prices. Plus the labor to install the new display unit.

I cannot attest to the tech's attitude, but there's usually a fixed price for a given repair and front line staff do not have authority to negotiate.

Try selling the Macbook online, fully disclosing the condition. Shops like ours buy computers in various states of disrepair to obtain parts. If you take it to an actual Apple Store, they do sometimes offer to sell you a replacement but that's typically for iPads and iPhones, etc. Not feasible since most Apple Stores are closed. And the Apple Store tech experience is vastly different than the phone tech experience-avoid the phone call.
