I was wondering if there is a way, most likely through third party app, to force your screen to non standard resolutions that are not in the displays control panel? For example, I want to symply chop off the side of the screen (1024 instead of 1280) and keep the same height (854) on my powerbook to save graphics rendering while running a game. I am using X-Plane and when I run it I have desktop and apps visible next to it and I think that could be cutting into frame rates.

I don't know if those other apps being visible really makes a difference or not, but I think that would have to be a feature request for X-Plane. Unreal Tournament (all versions) can do custom "full screen" resolutions (edit your .ini), and the screen just fills the rest with black. I haven't seen other apps offer that.

(An overall app that did that full-time would probably be performing trickery that would cut into processor or GPU time anyway.)
