It's built into the OS instead. There's a need for a 'silence/mute' button on a phone, whereas it made sense for a physical switch on the iPad.

Yeah, isn't there an option in the multitasking slide bar thing that they added?

Yep it is part of the UI and not a physical toggle/button.

I thought I read several days back about how you can only 'lock' it in landscape mode. Makes no since to me but does anyone else recall reading that?
