Screen Share remotely over internet?

Now that Back to my Mac is gone, what is the easiest way to screen share over the internet? I have been using Apple's built in "screen share" app almost daily on my local network and it is awesome, but this will be my first time attempting to do the same thing while traveling. I've searched and read a lot of guides on how to do this with no answers for how to setup without Back to my Mac or some 3rd party software install.

If there is someone with the Mac you are trying to remote into, you can use Messages and screen share that way.

This wouldn't work if you were trying to do it solo, of course.
