Screen Sharing Color Depth

Hi in os 10.6 does anyone know a way of lowering the screen sharing color depth from full. When i connect with a vnc client, if i set it to anything other than full the screeen never opens.

or maybe suject another good VNC server i could use.

Very annoying. I use vine server because I havent been able to figure out how to change it. You used to be able to back in Tiger, but Leopard/SL you cant.
