MacRumors friends,

It has been a long time since I reached out for help!

I'm trying to connect from my MacBook Air to my iMac Pro using the Screen Sharing app.
The goal is to use my MacBook Air to control my iMac Pro (remotely, of course).

In the Sharing of the System Preferences, I have turned on:
File Sharing
Remote Login
Remote Management (including all of the options, e.g., Observe, Control, Show when being observed, etc...)

I have done this on both computers.

Then I type in the terminal (i.e., in bash) on my MacBook Air:
ssh myusername@myimacmachine.stat.purdue.edu -L 1399:myimacmachine.stat.purdue.edu:5900

and I use the "Screen Sharing" app to open a connection to:
localhost:1399

I can either try to connect By Requesting Permission, and my iMac Pro sees this,
OR
I can connect with my username and password from my iMac
BUT
either way, I get the following error:

"Authentication failed to 'localhost' because the viewer and server are incompatible."

The frustrating thing is that both machines are running Mojave (10.14.1) and both appear to have the underlying ARD 3.9.8 software that comes installed as the default.

I have also tried to change "Remote Management" to "Screen Sharing" in the Sharing preferences.
No love there either!

I have made similar connections many, many times before upgrading to Mojave, but now I cannot find a remedy.

I would appreciate your advice or suggestions, please. I'm a lifelong (since 1983??) Apple user.... not a newbie here, but feeling pretty stuck! I have Googled like crazy for solutions, but I thought I would come to my longtime Macrumors friends, hoping for a remedy or suggestions....

Warmest regards!
