I recently discovered that you could use the screen sharing app to screen share with a linux box, I got my linux box to pop up on the shared tab in finder but when I go to connect to the linux box all it does is this (refer to picture) I have allowed user on the linux box to be able to be seen by other computers...

So what I am I doing wrong here, why wont it connect and pop up with a shared screen?

Hi, I'm not in my mac right now.
but in order for the screen sharing to work with linux, there're couple of things that need to be met.
1. in the sharing section, enable vnc and type in the password
2. If you use ubuntu, just go ahead, connect it using the included remote sharing
3. if you use other linux, I think it's called tightvnc.

when you remote and type the user and password, sometimes the screen sharing got disconnected. you just need to reconnect again.

Sorry for my english. Hope you understand

I just ran into this a couple days ago. The settings on the linux side MUST be set perfect. Otherwise the linux side thinks it is connected, but the screen never shows up on the Mac side, but instead shows exactly what you are seeing.

It took about 30 minutes of Googling for me to get it straightened out. Unfortunately I tossed out my linux install for other reasons, so I can't remember the exact settings...
