I've got a 17" iMac G5 on which I enabled the screen spanning hack to be able to use a second display in extended desktop mode.

I've now moved and need to go back to just one display due to space restrictions. No second display is connected, but the iMac still thinks one is, which creates a lot of annoyances. I don't see any options in System Preferences to simply turn the second display (which isn't even plugged in) off.

?

Erm...strange. It should automatically adjust to having only one screen as soon as the external was unplugged. This didn't happen? I would try resetting the non-volatile RAM (try holding Cmd-Opt-P-R while rebooting). This may undo the screen spanning hack, meaning you may need to run it again in the future if you wish to use it again. Normally you should not need to do anything special when you're not using a second monitor -- it should go back to standard one display operation.
