if you are picky about screen uniformity and yellow edging, would it be a better bet to go with the 10.5 or 12.9? Or no difference?

I just think it depends on if you need more screen. The 10.5 iPad basically the size of a composition book. I love tucking mine into one. The 12.9 sits between a 12in MBP and 15in MBP. So what size would you like to use? will be the determining factor.

I think the yellow edge plagues the 10.5 more?

I didn't know 12.9 had widespread yellow edge, just standard uniformity issues?

I haven’t specifically looked for yellow edges on my 12.9” so I can’t say whether it suffers from it or not. However, if you’re super particular about screens you should probably know that 12.9” iPad Pro displays are large enough to have a little bit of a warp to them even if the body is straight.

You need to look for it, for instance by holding the display at an angle while it’s off, so that it reflects some geometric shape like window blinders. You’ll notice the lines formed by the blinder reflection aren’t perfectly straight - there’s some distortion.

On a positive note this happens on pretty much any large reflective surface. Stuff generally isn’t built to such tolerances that it wouldn’t happen on large enough surfaces.

I got my 10.5 recently. It didn’t have yellow edging but it lacked brightness uniformity. There was a dark band that spanned across the screen, about 1/2 inch tall, right above the home button. The Apple genius noticed it right away when I brought mine in. Apple replaced it with new iPad Pro. Now my new iPP has uniform brightness but its magnets are weak (so my Apple Smart Cover goes on sloppy). Oh well, I will be upgrading to the 2018 iPP anyway so my ownership of this 10.5 will be short-lived. But I love the 10.5, it’s size is perfect for portability and my use.

My 12.9 has the best quality screen I’ve ever had in an iPad to date. No uniformity or backlight bleed issues at all.
