Screen uniformity has to do with where the OLED substrate was cut from in the wafer not who manufactured it. Photolithography is (as far as I’m aware) the same for all the suppliers of high end mobile OLED screens. If you are lucky and get a screen cut from the centre or reasonably close to centre the screen will be even. As you move further out from the centre of the wafer the uniformity becomes worse and those from the edge of the wafer will be the most uneven.
G9N and G9P are both Samsung serial numbers. Some have claimed that the N and P were indicative of quality, regardless of what caused the quality difference (proximity to the edge or any other manufacturing deviations).

I want to report back, with great difficulty I finally secured a replacement phone today and I don't have the tint issue on this one. I ran diagnostics and it's still a G9N. Looks like you're right about the serial number not affecting quality, at least for Samsungs.
100% , I cannot wait until the next display technology is used for iPhones. Perhaps in 4 years time?
I imagine that they will move to microLED in the future. Rumors are that it's coming for the Apple Watch soon and that will allow different screen shapes, better brightness, and more efficiency. Plus no burn-in. If we aren't all using Vision Pro by the time the technology evolves for phone-sized displays then we might see a micro-LED iPhone.

These screens are made by 2 or 3 manufacturers, they are made to apples specs, the variable is wafer location. That's really it besides dead pixels. Colour cast and other uniformity issues are in direct relation to this. If you get a good even screen really is luck of the draw. If you can be bothered to keep trying eventually you should get a decent one. I always do but it's a long journey sometimes.

Alright so it seems like the screens emphasise any discolouration when they heat up + have night shift on.

At normal temps I haven’t been able to really notice much variances in the panels between multiple 15s. Definitely heat is a factor. Not an issue though considering we don’t really use our phones normally when they’re hot

I've found that low light + dark mode + greys exacerbate the issue on mine. A great example is to be in a dark space, turn dark mode on, and go into the Settings app -- the various menus will not be a consistent color/brightness from left to right. Light mode or bright screen, 100% uniform.

That would drive me nuts as I use my phone at lowest brightness + dark mode all the time.

same.

so low brightness grey uniformity was foobar'd on lots of iPhone 13 Pro's, seems the same with iPhone 15 Pro's?

afaik, iPhone 14 Pro largely avoided this particular issue.

the only "issue" i have on my 15 Pro Max is that the bottom of the screen can look a little cooler but if i tilt it foward a bit more then it looks completely even in terms of warmness. For the first few days I didn't even notice it, spent a few days worrying about it, and for the last few days I literally do not care about it anymore.

It's only noticeable if I look for it, if it's on a white background that is taking up most of the screen, and maybe Night Shift/True Tone makes it more noticeable? Also, my brightness when at home is only at like ~10-15%. I use dark mode all the time. At brighter settings it's not really visible. I even displayed a white image across the full screen and stared at it for about a minute trying to look at it but it seemed fine. I also held the phone upside down and the "top" was still warm so I think the screen itself is generally fine but the angle you hold and view it at isn't as good as it could be for an OLED. I don't know the proper term.

I'm not going to worry about something like this and it's not worth the hassle of having to return it, get a new phone, and set it all up again especially when it's likely you'll get a phone with just the same "Issue" or perhaps even worse. A dead pixel or really bad uniformity would irritate me. Usually I am very picky when it comes to screen quality...if I can deal with it then 99% of people can. I care about screen quality on any device because I mean...you're staring at all the time so you want it to be good, right? I can't even bring myself to care about it and not going to bother checking to see what serial number or make it is lol. Compared to my 12 Pro Max the screen is a huge upgrade. It's a lot brighter and I can actually see the screen in the sun now, more vivid colours, and doesn't have that awful green tint over it.

That was similar to the 2nd 15PM that I returned. The bottom 1/3 - 1/4 of the screen was very slightly reddish but not nearly as bad as others I've seen. It was noticeable at regular brightness but was within my tolerance. The reason I returned and wanted to try another one was that there was always a very faint red-tinted circular shaped splotch that would move at different angles. Just an odd OLED viewing angle issue.

I had this issue on an Samsung s22U, slight shift /angle tilting down ( 10 degrees or less even!) would result in the bottom of the screen going blue.

Don't you notice that even if you have the true tone disabled, the brightness and tone of the screen varies depending on the outside light?

My 15 Pro has a nice even screen and I'm not even going to check it in low light or dark mode for issues, as I don't use it that way and if it has the problem it would still bother me. :) No issues at all with my phone and I wouldn't want to risk an exchange at this point.

It would seem to be predominantly 15 Pro Max with the issue, most seem to say their 15 Pro is fine, this has also been my experience, its the most even OLED screen on an iPhone I have seen and I have had every generation since the X.

My 15PM screen is indeed basically perfect, better than my old 13P even with True Tone and 0% brightness with grey in complete darkness. This is why I did not return it despite a micro dot with the PVD coating missing and a micro dust particle in the main lens on the extreme left side that can be seen only against a strong light (totally not influencing pictures as the sensor is mounted vertical, I tried putting a strip of tape on the left side of the lens and it didn't affect pictures one bit).

That would be a keeper for me also. Screen quality is most paramount. Shame that we have to settle these days though.

Classic Apple employees behavior….same thing happened to me in May with the 14PM but instead of screen uniformity it was for a dead pixel…
they all sweared they couldn’t see it smh I even showed them a photo i took with another 14PM on macro mode but didn’t believe me therefore they couldn’t swap it out.
But when I used the camera of the iPhones on display, where the dead pixel was clearly visible, they changed the reason why they didn’t/couldn’t want to swap it : this time according to them it’s a very small thing and does not fall as a defect :/ so for them I had to keep a phone that’s clearly faulty because they did not see anything strange... In the end I just returned it!
Btw it’s the biggest Apple Store in my city(and Europe) and not some third party reseller.
Apple's customer service in Europe is so much different than that in the US it's kind of crazy.
It's almost impossible to get a replacement here. If it's something that can be repaired, they'll send it in for a 30-day repair and take all the time they're legally allowed to. Will laugh at you if you bring up that you want a replacement and don't want to send a brand new device to service. And you have to raise hell to make a return if you've opened the box.

Yeah, if you call them they'll try to fix it. But my brand new 6S was butchered when they sent it from Italy to a polish service center (the screen wasn't flush and was extruding from an angle, also wasn't better than the old one). In the end I drove 100km to the nearest Apple Store and they gave me a remanufactured one. It was worse than my new one (way darker screen at the top and a skewed power button). But there was little to whine as they said it was fine, and it was then when I learned my lesson. Never dream of a "perfect" Apple device. Most aren't. I also had dust under my brand new 4S screen (not bought directly from Apple), they exchanged it for a remanufactured which had a fine screen, but a buzzy vibration motor (common defect) and a shiny dot in the back instead of black. I kept it because I learnt that no iPhone is perfect and every time you ask for an exchange they'll do it but you can VERY POSSIBLY end up with a worse phone. And it's up to you and your stress tolerance how long to keep going. I just can't do it anymore and I accept minor flaws now. But for a dead pixel yeah I would have returned it instantly within the 14-days law period. I had a "perfect" iPhone 8 though. And a cosmetically perfect iPhone 13 Pro. But the battery was always bad and the screen wasn't the most uniform at night, but I didn't bother. My S5 Watch has a dot with missing paint. My M1 iMac buzzes at low brightness (every single one is like that) and the camera is slightly out of focus on the left side. I checked demo units and they were the same. Maybe a bad batch. A 2500€ machine. I don't care anymore, it's sad, but true.

Second 15 Pro Max I’ve gotten has identical unevenness in low brightness + grey situations, so probably will just grow to live with it. Disappointing for sure.

It’s strange as my 14 Pro Max was fine…not perfect but not noticeable in normal use. I’ve always (as long as it’s been available) used dark mode and the settings menus always really shows an uneven screen and it bugs the hell out of me. You really shouldn’t have to live with this.

My Samsung Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 both have perfectly even screens and these are LTPO Samsung screens so I really do wonder why the 15 Pro Max are having such cast/brightness consistently issues.

Well at least it’s not a dead pixel…bought 2 15 pro maxes and both had dead pixel 🤣🤣🤣 needless to say both got returned to Apple straightaway.

Yeah honestly it really just is the Settings app or anything with those long horizontal menus rendered in dark grey... agreed that it should be better than that. One hopeful spot is that on the first 15 Pro Max I had with the issue, it did get *somewhat* better (though not full go away) as I used the phone over a few days; fingers crossed the new one does similarly.

I had that on my 13P and it really bugged me but honestly after a while I stopped caring and forgot about it

I'm quite a perfectionist but I've honestly never had quality issues like these, apart from the 2013-era MacBook Air, where it was a struggle to find one with a flush trackpad. I think to this day not all MacBooks have it flush towards the bottom or one of the sides. I've seen one that was particularly deeply recessed into the body towards the right on a friend's M1 Air, to the point where it feels uncomfortable when you slide your finger outside of it and is kind of obvious that it's not 90deg flush even when you look at it.

This iPhone 15 is the first time I'm having issues with build quality and hardware. But the screen is uniform and very good when it comes to color. Perhaps I've never had a lemon but I don't expect every OLED to be exactly the same. Currently G9Q which would be Samsung. Don't know what my 13 had.

Ive sure had my QC issues with iPhones, normally 3rd exchange remedied it for me iPhone 12PM, 13PM . However I got extremely lucky with Iphone 14PM and M1 MacBook Pro 14. Out the box they were acceptable for me so no exchanges on those two.
