Never had this problem before! Although everything is set up correctly in System Prefs, my screensaver won't operate; neither display nor computer go to sleep as they should and the "hot corner" for screensaver doesn't start it.
Have restarted, rebuilt directory with DiskWarrior - still no good.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Do you have any kind of app that prevents screensaver/sleep from activating when you try to activate it? DVD Player for example?

Try repairing permissions with Disk Utility. Sometimes that fixes stuff like you mentioned.

Thanks - but nothing new has been added to the system (like a DVD player) and the problem has only just recently happened. I have repaired permissions in Disk Utility also. So far, no joy.

Thanks ......... Harry

Do you have Bluetooth items that could be preventing it from sleeping, particularly peripherals with low battery levels? Do you have the computer set to wake from modem or ethernet activity (in the Energy Saver settings)? Also, what OS do you run because I was having the same issue on my iMac with 10.4.4 but it's been resolved in 10.4.5. :)

Thank you all for your helpful comments - but for some unknown reason the problem seems to have disappeared this morning.
I put the iMac to sleep last night using Apple/Sleep command and today it has woken, bright and cheerful, behaving normally.

Sorry to have bothered you but thanks for your help ........ Harry
