When my mac went to screensaver this morning it just started the screen flashing every 2 seconds. So I went into preferences to choose a screensaver and it just hangs for 2 seconds and then boots me out of preferences. I tried repairing permissions and verifying the disk etc but still the same after numerous re-boots. I can't even disable the screensaver as it just boots me out of the preferences. Everything else is working perfectly.

Anyone got any ideas how to solve this?

TIA

ps its a 2.4 c2d iMac running 10.5.5

What screensaver did you have selected prior to this problem? Was it the RSS Visualiser one?

If so, I had the same problem, and I partially resolved it by going into /Library/Screen Savers (I'm not at my Mac right now so I'm not sure that's 100% correct) and removed the RSS screensaver. That stopped the preference pane from crashing, but I still haven't worked out what's causing that screensaver to crash.

Let me know if that helped.
