Screenshot of a specific area

Is it possible to automate (using automator) taking a shot of a specific section of a screen? I know the keyboard combinations, but I need to take hundreds of screenshots of an area within a window.

Would the easiest thing be to record an action and take the screenshot?

Couldn't you just take screenshots of the whole window and then batch crop those screenshots? There are more than enough batch image processors out there to be able to do that. For example ResizeMe
