Still, the alternative new look should be easier on the eyes when viewed in dark environments.
Having an OLED iPhone and having used several quasi-“dark” apps, this has never been the case for me. I end up increasing the screen brightness because the contrast between dark elements and bright/white elements just isn’t enough for visibility. It’s beyond frustrating and completely negates the point of having a screen where pixels turn OFF if they are true black. Even some first-party Apple apps are guilty of this. Not surprised that the most careless tech company on the planet is guilty as well.
All that being said, getting a good RSS feed app with true blacks and mainly using Reader View in Safari has been so wonderful for post-sunset iPhone use. Looking forward greatly to a day that iPads have individually-lit pixels whether through mini-LED or OLED.
