Samsung owners tend to be the same as well. People have an odd attachment to their phones, more than computers it seems to me. Phones are personal. Your desire to keep it pristine isn't out of the ordinary.
I tried metal polish and no luck. I think the reason people get so riled up is here spending $700-$1000 on a device that the manufacturer touts as 'superior build quality', so when it has a bad screen or dust underneath or scratches or whatever, it pisses people off. It sure as hell pisses me off.
Apple should probably use that Liquidmetal for more than just SIM ejection tools, that would be nice. Also the Watch has basically everything the iPhone and iPad user wants - sapphire display, OLED, etc.
I didn't enroll in the upgrade program because my credit sucks and I didn't want another hit, I just bought it outright, so understandably it annoys someone like me when they play a Jony Ive video and tout their great quality. Oh well, what can you do.
Also sapphire isn't very clear if it has any thickness to it, there's some opacity.I tried metal polish and no luck. Honestly, iPhones are the only phones that don't trigger my OCD. Except I NEED to have a case and screen protector before I even use it. Or else it just doesn't feel right.I don't know of the problem is me, or Apple QC, or both (probably both), but these Apple products bring out the worst in people's obsessiveness.
For example, me, I've been diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, the whole nine yards. I put cases, screen protectors, try to keep my phones as perfect as possible, and yet it never helps.
Take for example my 6S, I put a case on it that covers the back, and today while it was off I noticed that I had a huge scratch running across the entire Apple logo that was visible in just about any light. The thing scratched with a case on it. Even my last 6 didn't do that, but the camera ring sure did.
So I'm reaching the point where I just think - what's the point? Seriously, what's the point? I've lost so much time in life applying and reapplying screen protectors, running back and forth to the Apple Store, etc. It's gotten to the point where it's frustrating but not sure how to stop doing it.
That being said, I do want to try metal polish on it since I heard it's stainless steel.
I'm not fed up enough to rock a naked phone, probably never will, but it is a cycle that I'd like to alleviate a little bit. Anybody else have stories?
iPhone 7 is likely to be the 6S Killer. As long as it is accepted and swapped for the iPhone 7, I'm a happy camper.
Stop perpetuating this. There are tons of scratches on iPhones and no one has diamonds in their pockets. They scratch, that's it.TouchID can't scratch unless you're carrying around some diamonds in your pocket![]()
Not on the TouchID sensor or the camera lens. They're made of Sapphire which is an 8 on the mohs scale. The screen can definitely scratch as my ten day old 6s+ has some minor scratches already but that's another matter.Stop perpetuating this. Scratches, dings show history and use and enjoyment. Rolex wearers and guitar players don't worry over scratches and nicks on their several thousand dollars worth of merchandise. They're tools. Use them, enjoy them. The quickest path to disappointment is to look for things to be disappointed about.
My iPhone 5 is dinged to hell on those diamond-cut chamfered edges and whenever I look at them it brings back a flood of memories, both good and bad. Most blemishes show history of use, but some tell a story. I got a particular nasty set of dings on the top edge near the camera when my niece wanted to see my brand new iPhone 5. I handed it to her to play with and when I turned around to help with the cooking I heard a nasty drop and my niece yelled, Oh no!
She stood there with a guilty look on her face and kept saying sorry over and over. I looked over the phone and it turned on fine but saw the dings on the edges and then saw my niece was on the verge of tears and she said, Please don't be mad at me. It was an accident.
I told her I wasn't mad and gave her hug. I got two years' worth of stories with that phone.
Looking forward to getting more stories with my new 6s.

i also don't think it helps when you have forums like Macrumors where people with the same obsessiveness can feed off each other. Every time there is a new ipad or iphone release....there are threads about screen issues/build quality etc.I don't know of the problem is me, or Apple QC, or both (probably both), but these Apple products bring out the worst in people's obsessiveness.

But I can see why people are protective of their iPhones, as they're not exactly cheap. And that's why those vendors are making a fortune selling phone accessories and cases and screen protectors.![]()
