I tried metal polish and no luck. I think the reason people get so riled up is here spending $700-$1000 on a device that the manufacturer touts as 'superior build quality', so when it has a bad screen or dust underneath or scratches or whatever, it pisses people off. It sure as hell pisses me off.

Apple should probably use that Liquidmetal for more than just SIM ejection tools, that would be nice. Also the Watch has basically everything the iPhone and iPad user wants - sapphire display, OLED, etc.

I didn't enroll in the upgrade program because my credit sucks and I didn't want another hit, I just bought it outright, so understandably it annoys someone like me when they play a Jony Ive video and tout their great quality. Oh well, what can you do.

No one will Have Sapphire, its too expensive, hard to make and is more prone to shatter. The current glass is hard to scratch unless you keep your keys in the same pocket which would be dumb, or always rest the phone on its face.

The current 7k aluminum body is harder than liquid metal. The body is extremely durable now.

Also sapphire isn't very clear if it has any thickness to it, there's some opacity.

I don't know of the problem is me, or Apple QC, or both (probably both), but these Apple products bring out the worst in people's obsessiveness.

For example, me, I've been diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, the whole nine yards. I put cases, screen protectors, try to keep my phones as perfect as possible, and yet it never helps.

Take for example my 6S, I put a case on it that covers the back, and today while it was off I noticed that I had a huge scratch running across the entire Apple logo that was visible in just about any light. The thing scratched with a case on it. Even my last 6 didn't do that, but the camera ring sure did.

So I'm reaching the point where I just think - what's the point? Seriously, what's the point? I've lost so much time in life applying and reapplying screen protectors, running back and forth to the Apple Store, etc. It's gotten to the point where it's frustrating but not sure how to stop doing it.

That being said, I do want to try metal polish on it since I heard it's stainless steel.

I'm not fed up enough to rock a naked phone, probably never will, but it is a cycle that I'd like to alleviate a little bit. Anybody else have stories?
Honestly, iPhones are the only phones that don't trigger my OCD. Except I NEED to have a case and screen protector before I even use it. Or else it just doesn't feel right.

As long as it is accepted and swapped for the iPhone 7, I'm a happy camper.
iPhone 7 is likely to be the 6S Killer.

Today there's been several leaks that accomplish what Apple creates them for... To ready us for the next release. History suggests that the 7 will indeed be a very substantial upgrade. In a milestone moment they're suggesting that as conservative and hesitant Apple can be they may finally ditch the ancient mechanical home button.

If they use a good touch sensitive home button like found on Google Nexus phones, finally iPhone users will experience true progress. Clicking or double clicking Apples silly mechanical button is a bad deal. I can go so much faster on my Nexus it's not even funny. THREE YEARS of wasted time on Apples part, yet better late than never.

Look Ma! iPhone 7 is Magical and Revolutionary :D

People talk about scratches being inevitable and cases making their phones look crap, so go naked etc but I choose a nice case for mine which complements the premium design. I've got a $100 leather flip case, not a cheap looking thing at all and it keeps the premium vibe going. I also use screen protectors and keep the original Apple protective slip on the back (I cut the rest off).

This way even under heavy use, so long as I'm reasonably careful my phone stays in mint condition and also looks good. Bumper cases and Otterboxes cheapen the look considerably IMO, as do bargain basement flip cases.
My 6+ looked 10 seconds old when I sold it and yet I used the hell out of that device.

Stop perpetuating this. There are tons of scratches on iPhones and no one has diamonds in their pockets. They scratch, that's it.
Not on the TouchID sensor or the camera lens. They're made of Sapphire which is an 8 on the mohs scale. The screen can definitely scratch as my ten day old 6s+ has some minor scratches already but that's another matter.

Scratches, dings show history and use and enjoyment. Rolex wearers and guitar players don't worry over scratches and nicks on their several thousand dollars worth of merchandise. They're tools. Use them, enjoy them. The quickest path to disappointment is to look for things to be disappointed about.

My iPhone 5 is dinged to hell on those diamond-cut chamfered edges and whenever I look at them it brings back a flood of memories, both good and bad. Most blemishes show history of use, but some tell a story. I got a particular nasty set of dings on the top edge near the camera when my niece wanted to see my brand new iPhone 5. I handed it to her to play with and when I turned around to help with the cooking I heard a nasty drop and my niece yelled, Oh no!

She stood there with a guilty look on her face and kept saying sorry over and over. I looked over the phone and it turned on fine but saw the dings on the edges and then saw my niece was on the verge of tears and she said, Please don't be mad at me. It was an accident.

I told her I wasn't mad and gave her hug. I got two years' worth of stories with that phone.

Looking forward to getting more stories with my new 6s.

Nice buckle rash.

When I got my iPhone 6 I waited nearly a month for AT&T to get it to me. I had it for a few weeks when I happened to be at my uncle's for a family event. I took the phone out of its case to show my nephew and then without thinking I handed it to my uncle who had been drinking a bit to show him a picture. He proceeded to immediately drop my precious, perfect phone on his ceramic tile floor. To add more injury, during his fumbling moment, he tipped the beer he was holding in his other hand in an attempt to catch the phone. He managed to spill beer right on my phone's home button. The beer didn't seem to hurt the phone as it probably was only on the phone for a second as I reacted very quickly. I spent the next year with my phone with nicks on two corners from the drop. When I got my 6S last week I laughed while telling my wife "I'm not letting anyone hold my phone".

Obsession

I keep checking everyday to see if there is a new service available to swap out the processor for a different one (like those services that can swap out screens or batteries).

NOTHING yet.

This sounds like a great business opportunity for someone who can do this type of work.

Just checked again...NOTHING.

You mean 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness.

I agree. Truthfully, I believe it's something that comes with age and maturing. I'm not attempting to label someone who cares about their property as immature. My point is that over the course of our lives we start to prioritize what is truly important in life and worth our time getting upset over. I'm guilty of over obsessing in the past, but I look back at it now and laugh at how silly I was. There are far more important dilemmas in life than a scratch or mark on a phone. Consider yourself very fortunate if those are the biggest issues in your life.

That's not to say that it's acceptable for a company to delivery your a damaged phone. We paid large sums of money for these devices and Apple should be held accountable for giving yo your monies worth. I'm strictly speaking to those who are panicking over minuscule defects.

i also don't think it helps when you have forums like Macrumors where people with the same obsessiveness can feed off each other. Every time there is a new ipad or iphone release....there are threads about screen issues/build quality etc.
it's annoying to see and i know some people literally can't help it, but feeding off each other just makes it worse.

For me, i don't see the point in obsessing over something you don't really have control over. If it's gonna scratch, it's gonna scratch. I used to spend a lot of money on cases and protecting my phone with otterbox and lifeproof, but in the end...even the case scratched the device or even the case failed etc. I rocked my 6 plus naked for 6 months and really didn't care what happened to it as phones can still get damaged even with big otterbox cases on it.

Another thing i think to add, is a lot of people are very materialistic and get stuck on owning so many things or very protective of the things they own. I like nice things, don't get me wrong...but everything in life is replaceable. If it gets damaged or stolen etc. it can all be replaced.

I think people get too caught up in the material aspect of it. IMO at least...

Beautiful story, but to each his own. I always use a case and a screen protector. Not for resale value so the next buyer can enjoy it, but for the love of the phone I own. It gives me a feeling of pride when sometimes I put it out of the case and see how it's still EXACTLY the same as the first time I unboxed it. It would almost make me puke when I would see my phone all scratched up and dinged up, just like when I look at the pictures of iPhones on the Dutch equivalent of eBay, that are a terrible mess and people sadly trying to sell it for half the price of the iPhones that are in pristine condition.

For me, I don't need scratches and dings to remember stories. I just remember in my mind, all the times I dropped my phone and just laughed my ass of with my friend before picking it up, knowing that each time the case is doing it's job perfectly. Like I said, to each his own ;)

But I can see why people are protective of their iPhones, as they're not exactly cheap. And that's why those vendors are making a fortune selling phone accessories and cases and screen protectors. ;)

This is exactly why I was protective of my iPhone when it was new. If the phone was $300, I might care less. At $650, I really don't want to be repairing or replacing the unit anytime soon.

It is liberating now that my phone is 2.5 years old and has trade-in value of $90. I still keep a case and screen protector on it, but I don't worry too much about dings and scratches.
