Whew, second "help" post today ... 😱

Last night my girlfriend's Canon Ixus 700 started randomly coming up with "Memory card error".

I've put it the SD card in question in my USB reader and run it through disk utility. It takes a while to register but when it does I've tried selecting "erase" and it just gets stuck after a couple of seconds.

Anyone have any suggestions?

If it won't reformat in the camera, send the card back under warranty.

I would "bin" it and buy another card. 😡

it won't reformat at all, in fact it completely freezes the camera and the only way to fix that is to take the battery out.

What's the deal with SanDisk memory then, is it a lifetime warranty?

The price of memory cards is so low, just buy another. The hassle and delay in sending your card back is probably not worth it.

Yeah I just looked first at the online warranty doc which states it's five years so it would be covered, but a new 1Gb card is $29 (the busted one is 512MB), so I think you're probably right.

Annoying but they're nothing like as pricey as they used to be.

Go buy a new one AND return that one, that way eventually you will have two working SD cards, you never know where they will come in handy.

yeah will do. Don't know how long it will take but I'll set the wheels in motion. Just bought the 1GB one...
