all this technical jibber-jabber is great. can't we all just agree that this is a silly idea? :rolleyes:

If you search the forums you will find several users who are running a SSD in a FW 800 enclosure and they are very happy with the results. If this is not a setup you would prefer, so be it, but that is no reason to dismiss it as a "silly idea" and give people the :roll eyes:.

I am one of the people who use an FW800+SSD as my boot drive (not an SD card though :p ). I have to post this explanation at least once a day:

The thing about SSDs that makes the computer feel so much more responsive is their random read and write speed, which on average is around 30-40MB/s as opposed to 1-2MB/s for a traditional hard drive. FW800 maxes out at about 80MB/s, which is more than enough to handle the 30-40MB/s from the SSD. The only things FW800 will be limiting are long sequential reads and writes, but in reality those are not too common for the average user anyway.
