Hi all and apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum.

Perhaps you may help me troubleshoot an issue I am having trying to format a SDHC card on my MBP.

I am trying to create a recovery SDHC disk for my MBP.
The disk is a Transcend 16gb (class 10).

I formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) w/ a GUID Partition Table but after this, Disk Utility is now showing only 10.38 gb of usable space, but finder is showing me the full amount (15.79 gb). When I look in finder there are NO files or folders on the drive.

I tested trying to put more than 10.38 gb worth of files on the disk and was told there was not enough space.

If I format the disk to anything other than Journaled, I get the full 15.79 gb. Has anyone ever experienced this before?

Any way to remove this ~ 5 gb of ghost data on my drive?

My pictures may describe this better. Thanks for any insight:

try to format it again, but this time check the option to secure erase it.
worth a shot i'd think.

Thanks for the suggestion and quick reply.

Unfortunately, I have actually attempted this 2 times already with no luck. After the secure erase, it still looks exactly like the screen shot.

Some other things I have attempted which have proved unsuccessful:

- Format on windows to FAT then reformat in Mac as journaled.
- format as non journaled then enable journaling
- rebuild directory with Disk Warrior
- create 2 partitions then delete the second (fat) then try to grow the 1st partition (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)

Is there any chance that anyone here owns one of the Transcend 16gb class 10 cards and can do a test format and let me know if it looks like the screen shot?

Thanks
