I really think today's event is going to lay the groundwork for Apple's second mobile phone revolution. Just as the iPhone made most every other handset obsolete in my eyes, the SDK will provide a legit (i.e. non-hacked) platform that exploits the portable computer that lies at the heart of the iPhone and give us a mobile device that will be bigger than the iPod. Don't get me wrong. The iPhone has been great, and was revolutionary straight out of the box, but having these things opened to applications without risk of having our phones bricked is going to make these devices much more than just a phone, iPod and rather dumb Web browser (albeit the best one to date). This platform is going to make the iPhone a must have device and I can't wait to see how this platform develops over time as developers conceive of new ways to exploit this little computer we carry around in our pockets. Watch for the rest of the industry to attempt to follow suit.
