there
Just wondering if there is a pop or eject mechanism in the Mac mini 2012 SDXC card slot?
mine just slides in about 7/8th of the way,
thanks in advance!

7/8th is correct insertion. No ‘pop’ mechanism, but you can always eject by selecting it on the desktop and choosing “eject”. The card should slide out easily by hand.

thanks for your response,
something is not reading the SDXC card slot drive, probably the logic board is not connected.
hello ifixit i guess.

I have the same issue. Make sure to insert card with a good amount of force or the leads on the card won’t make contact in the machine. Once inserted, check disk utility to see if it’s being detected.

Yeah, I was always surprised by how hard I had to press the card into the slot on my 2012 Mini.
still no response on 2 sd cards with applying pressure on the top and bottom in disk utilities.
Since i purchased this mini in late december and realized this just yesterday, this feature is not that important
and happy i retired from daily photography!

maybe down the road i will take part the mini to install an extra drive and see if there is a part or connecting thing i am missing or that is not connected, but seems to me that the entire back port just slides into the logic board.

thanks for the reply

Unlike other posts here, my 2012 mini won't read a card of I push it in too fast/hard.
I've a Transcend card reader which is way more reliable.

The SD card slots on Macs can be "picky" as to which cards they'll read.
Some are read without problems.
Some... just refuse to be "seen".

If you have a card that's giving you a problem with the Mini, try a USB card reader BEFORE you decide "the slot is bad"...

thanks for the advice!
I used an usb drive with the WD card and that read perfectly,

since i purchased the mini at a pawnshop, they owner might have did something weird,
i still need to get a coupler for the heatsink and fan next.

A bit late, but check the system report to see if it sees the SD slot. If it does, dust and debris can get stuck in the slot. Use a vacuum and a piece of tape and dust and debris can be cleaned out.
