I go for highest class available.
higher the class the faster the card.
Not sure about macbook pro but most Windows laptop card readers are connected to the usb 2 bus so that will limit the speed anyway.
Not sure which bus the macbook pro is using.
If you want to use for extra storage fine but be slower than your HDD/SSD.
