and that program doesnt seem to work for me. is there any others?
It should come up on the menu bar, next to the Wifi Signal bar. Click it and it will show a huge list, scroll down and youll see load cycle count.

it says smart command failed. it doesnt show load cycle.
Use this then: http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php
Look up in attributes you will see load cycle count.
ok thanks..it says my drive passed. load cycle was 99 value/worst
and 2466 raw value.
what numbers should i look out for?
The 2466. Yours seem fine. Mine was 9000 by two weeks usage.
so what number should i start to be weary about? the higher the worse? whats normal range?
I think I have found some of the solution to this madness.
I managed to get a new Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb and after maybe 2 hours my load cycle count had risen to 250. When I put my head against the hard drive, I had found that there was a consistent click every few seconds and when I checked diagnostics every click corresponded to one load cycle count.
The solution to stop the load cycle count rising to astronomical figures like my Seagate had shown, I used HDAPM as I mentioned in the post earlier.
This solution works and is tried and tested with a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb (WD500BEVT) and the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 (before I had returned it ofcourse).
I have only returned the Seagate because the problem of beach balling and contant (whisper quiet) clicking was driving me insane and for my mental health decided to try this drive. I do not want to put off potential buyers from buying the seagate, but in all honesty... I don't see any difference![]()
