Seagate Backup?

I connected the external hard drive and it backed it up but it's taking FOREVER to go thru the encryption process! Does it need to be encrypted? I am the only one who uses my Mac.

no need to worry about encryption. Especially if no one else uses your computer. Some people are just really paranoid about people getting into their hard drive.

Are you using Seagate's backup software? If so don't. Format the drive and use Time Machine instead.

I've tried to look in settings. Is there any way to "unencrypt" it?

Have u looked in disc utility? I think the setting for that is located there somewhere
