I just got a Seagate External HD, and I'm having trouble formating it. I know this should be simple, but the instructions are telling me to follow steps which don't exist when I open Disk Utility. It appears that the instructions pertain to OS9. It says to open Disk Utility, select the drive, and click "partition" or "initialize". I see "partition", but not "initialize". I don't want to partition it, just use it as one volume. Does anyone know what steps I should be following to format this drive?

The instructions do say that OSX has built-in drivers, but I should still have to format it, right? I've done this before on another computer, with a different brand of drive, but it was an older version of OSX. The steps were more clear in that one. I'm running Tiger, and I don't know which option to select. Any help would be appreciated!

Also, what format do I choose? Currently, it's formatted for MS-DOS. Do I choose "free space"?

I'm only really here at night.
    dont worry about terminology :)

    open DU
select the HD in the left pane
    clik on the erase tab
name the drive & choose MacOS Extended Journaled
clik on erase and let it do it's thing

if u will be installing the OS after formatting
u can do this while booted from the Tiger install disk with less steps.....

Awesome! Thanks! Stupid manuals written for old OS's. Thanks!
