I have heard of a lot of issues with Seagate desktop drives so I would never buy one, but I had never heard of problems with their laptop drives so I took a chance a while back and got a FreeAgent Go 640GB external at Fry's. I have it partitioned into 3 partitions, 2 for backups (L 10.5 and SL 10.6) and one for data. Lately it has gotten to where the SL partition will not automatically mount when I plug it into my aluminum iMac running either 10.5 or 10.6, and will only mount the SL partition when I bring up Disk Utility. When I try to eject the disk it just hangs after graying out the partitions in Finder. I have tried this with both 10.5 and 10.6, and with both keyboard ports and with rear panel ports with no difference. I am about to reformat the FreeAgent and start over again, but I thought I would ask first if anybody else has experienced anything like this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Nobody? I am about to repartition and format this afternoon. If that doesn't work I'll contact Seagate.

Well, my iMac can't do anything with the disk. When I use Disk Utility to try to repartition the disk it hangs at "Unmounting Disk" and locks up the system so that it won't reboot; when I try to erase the disk it just hangs the system and won't reboot. I will take it into work Monday to see if Windows can do anything with it. This is the last Seagate I will ever buy; I knew better than to take a chance, and now I'm paying.
