Hello guys!

I just read about the External GoFlex drivers from Seagate and they deliver them also in 1.5TB size. CLICK
Seagate

They also have a normal SATA connection that can be used with the GoFlex cables USB 3.0 , Firewire etc.

My question :
Can we put these drive inside a macbook pro to operate like a normal HDD? afaik is this a normal 2,5" drive and should it be possible. I did not found out about a teardown. But this would be great !:D

Is 1.5TB 2.5" internal coming out already? I want to replace my MBP late 2009 with 1.5TB

Hi guys, getting my first MacBook this Tuesday a 13" late 2008 unibody aluminum with the easy access battery/ hard drive door.

I just wanted to enquire how you have been getting on with the 1.5tb drive? Any heat issues. Have your machines been working well?

I am trying to decided whether to go the 1.5 or 1 tb root...

Thanks!

Alex

I have a 1TB 12.5 so I can confirm that is possible and causes no case bulging, etc.. Anything more than 12.5 I have no idea.

Ah ok, so i guess a 1.5 TB 12.5mm size drive would be fine too in my mbp 15".....

If u can find a 12.5mm 1.5tb, the go flex one I have is 14mm which is also the one that the posters earlier in this thread put in their 15" and 17" pro's..

Well since then i have found that there are no 1TB drives that are 7200rpm, so i'm going to have to go with the 750gb 7200rpm.
I really don't want a 5400.

Yes the 750GB and the 1TB drives are 12.5mm in height.

I can almost guarantee that these 1.5TB 2.5" drives are going to be 12.5mm. I've never even heard of anything taller than that.

Give it a little bit and the internal versions of this drive will become available.

I plan on replacing my 1TB drive with a 1.5TB drive and putting an OWC SSD in the optical bay.

15mm drives do exist, and looks like this is one of them.

So i put a 14.8mm 1.5tb in my late 2008 unibody mac and of course the battery door would not close, so I bought and incase cover and put that on leaving off the battery door, and am very happy so far!

I can have my entire music and movie collection with me at all times without carrying an external! :)

How much heat is their? Does the drive run pretty cool?

You should read some benchmarks! Many 5400 rpm 1 TB drives are faster than 7200 rpm drives, because the drives have a higher storage density.

Here is a test of a WD WD10JPVT 9.5 mm drive:

More info:

Except for the 3 and 4 platter drives, which are always(I've always seen) slower than the 2-platter 5400RPM drives. Slower access time. For instance the 3-platter WD 1TB is slower and I bet this will be as well, although sequential transfer rates will be good I'm sure. It'll be fine as a storage drive

The 1TB WD in question is double platter (9.5mm).

7.0mm = single platter
9.5mm = dual platter
12.5mm = triple platter
15.0mm = quad platter

What's the thickness?

15mm, i.e. it won't fit.

WD drive cannot be removed from enclosure

Yeah, and this WD 2TB 4-platter drive has a direct USB interface right on the drive, so if you take the drive out of the enclosure, there is no SATA interface to be found. To see this with your own eyes, go to the take apart article on the storagereview web site.

I know this is really late but,
WD Green 2 TB Mobile Hard Drive: 2.5 Inch, SATA II, 8 MB Cache - WD20NPVT

works great too, no heat issues, but as I described 3 years ago battery cover does not fit but a good case solves that.
